BEYOND LIMITS... Freely inspired by Paolo and Francesca

Love is a deep feeling, strong and emotional, linking a person to his modalities of shape and expression. Different are its shapes, the way to live it and also different are the effects that lead a person to experience different moods, from happiness to desperation.

Among the different kinds of love is the passionate one, never-ending, able to link two souls together forever as a single entity and involving mind and body, so great that it even survives after death. This is an absolute and total way to love, not a common thing, so deeply felt and often, for that reason, fancied and idealised. It is just this idealisation that inspired the choreography of “Paolo and Francesca”, the tale of a brother and sister in-law, lovers killed by Francesca's husband Gianciotto and eternally condemned to hell due to their adultery.

The main theme is love, its birth, its sublimation, its decadence. We are in Dante Alighieri’s hell, in the circle of the lustful, where two beings are wandering, dragged by the storm. In the choreography time “flying” and the leading characters dance with the book are two important elements. Paolo and Francesca’s love, lived during their life and, overcoming death’s limit, it becomes eternal and still lives in every man’s heart thanks to Dante's work.

…to discover or re-discover a real universal feeling linking everyone, whoever he/she may be, in every time and every space…

The choreography won the grand prix at the 4th International Sergei Diaghilev Competition of Choreographic Art in Lodz, Poland in 2009. The choreographer Vito Alfarano was awarded by the international etoile and president of jury Vladimir Malakhov.
